Costume Jewelry
Costume jewelry is made from non-precious metal and stones, and generally refers to vintage pieces dating back 20 years or more, and very often applied to designer created items that become collectible. The use of the term is credited to Coco Chanel who designed it to decorate her "costumes", the French word for designer clothing.
Contemporary non-precious jewelry is termed, "fashion jewelry", and may become Costume Jewelry if it becomes popular and therefor stays around for a while.
