This painting depicts the pre-Apache Wars era when contact with the encroaching foriegners was at a minimal. A time when it was not a danger to wander in the wilds or banks of the rivers to do laundry or bathe. Nevertheless, Male lookout's who were the most trusted of the camps for their behavior and manners would always accompany the party of women to stand guard at a distance and protect them from harm and danger.
